In
1999, Hook A Kid On Golf decided that the program needed a
focal point. There needed to be something that let local programs
know they were part of a bigger picture and also something
youngsters across America could aspire to. So, in 1999 Hook
A Kid On Golf developed the first national tournament bringing
teams of youth together to test their skill and knowledge
of the rules, etiquette and history of golf.
The Traditions Of Golf Challenge is now an annual 3-day event,
which consists of a team mixer, contests, skill and rules
instruction, special guest presentations and the Traditions
Of Golf Challenge tournament. The tournament combines playing
scores with rules, etiquette and history knowledge. Each team's
score from their round is combined with their "Traditions
of Golf' score to determine the overall champion of the two-day
tournament. Knowing what to do after a ball has splashed into
a lateral water hazard and how to properly repair a ball mark
are just as important as sinking birdie putts.
Each year between 12 and 20 communities from across the nation and beyond travel to the host site to participate in this one of a kind event. |
