Our History
Rich Harvest Farms

In 1986, Jerry Rich decided to build himself a three-hole golf course. During construction, he decided to build six instead—each with three tees so he had the ability to play 18 different holes. He received accolades on the high quality and beauty of his original holes, so over a period of five years, he built twelve additional ones—this created one of the finest championship golf courses in the country. With a little help from golf course architect Greg Martin, of Martin Design Partnership in Geneva, IL, Rich designed his course exactly to his liking. His background in earth sciences, which he studied in college, helped greatly. The course is stationed on a 1,600-acre property in Sugar Grove, IL.

In 1999, Golf Digest magazine named Rich Harvest Links the 5th Best New Private Course in the United States, placing it ahead of courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Tom Wieskopf, and Greg Norman. In the “condition” category, the course was ranked 2nd Best New Course in the country. Another test of the quality of Rich Harvest Links comes from the top Senior PGA Tour players who have played in the Bob Murphy Hook A Kid On Golf Pro Am over the past three years. They classify it as the most difficult but fair test of golf that they play over the season. They also say It is the best-conditioned course they play.

The pros have commented that it is a great driving golf course with every hole requiring a strategic drive. The greens range in size from 1,700 square feet to 12,000 square feet, requiring pinpoint iron shots on some holes and long putting skills on several others. There are 91 bunkers to contend with, along with a lot of indigenous prairie grasses (Illinois is the Prairie State). Many of the holes are cut through heavy woods while other holes have an obvious links course look, creating a wonderful variety of golf course architecture.

Rich Harvest Links has a very small but distinguished membership of fewer than fifty members comprised of business leaders and sports celebrities. The quiet beauty of the Farm, and the privacy afforded members and guests add to the experience of playing a great golf course. On a typical day, five or six foursomes will play, but Rich Harvest allows a limited number of charity events each year as part of its Hook A Kid On Golf Foundation of Illinois.
